Toddlers respond best to music when they are between the ages of 1 and 3.
Look for opportunities to get your child clapping, marching, rolling, tapping, waving, and moving to the beat! Just listening to music contributes to a rich sensory environment. This means exposing kids to a wide variety of tastes, smells, textures, colours, and sounds — experiences that can forge more pathways between the cells in their brains.
Music Can Teach
Songs are more fun than your typical teaching methods. Children can learn counting, the alphabet, learn new words and phrases and even learn about history through songs. It has been scientifically proven that music has advantages and health benefits for children. One of these benefits is that it helps to improve their brainpower and memory functions!
It’s important to note that toddlers won’t learn to understand music at this young age. They won’t pick up individual notes, but will experiment with different pitches.

Music is a Mood Lifter
A lot of parents tuck their children in with a lullaby or calm them down with a song. Just as music can soothe a child, it can also lift their spirits! If your child is happy, nervous or tired, engaging in creative singing and dancing lets them release their emotions and really express their feelings! It’s a really great chance for children who are not able to use words yet express themselves.
You can use music to indicate play time, sleep time or different moments in your child’s daily routine.
Adding in Instruments
Keeping it simple is the key here. Young children will enjoy instruments they can wave and shake, rain sticks, rattles, bells etc. As children get older and a little more co-ordinated, they will enjoy instruments that can be banged and hit such as drums and Xylophones.
Adding an instrument adds another fun element and can also help with rhythm!
Music Go Round provides wonderful, fun and exciting music classes within a structured and progressive programme. Classes are carefully planned to include age-appropriate activities, encouraging young children to develop their confidence and creativity as well as musical and communication skills.
Research shows that all children have a natural ‘communicative musicality’ which is enhanced and developed through a regular structured music class led by a specially trained teacher. A Music Go Round class creates an ‘enriched early educational environment’ which supports and encourages the development of all areas outlined in the current government guidelines (EYFS) and especially communication, language and numeracy skills.
